“We thought when we started Y Combinator that the most important quality would be intelligence. That’s the myth in the Valley. And certainly you don’t want founders to be stupid. But as long as you’re over a certain threshold of intelligence, what matters most is determination. You’re going to hit a lot of obstacles. You can’t be the sort of person who gets demoralized easily.” - What We Look for...
“The reason you can expect to feel this is that what you do probably won’t work. Startups almost never get it right the first time. Much more commonly you launch something, and no one cares. Don’t assume when this happens that you’ve failed. That’s normal for startups. But don’t sit around doing nothing. Iterate.” - How Not to Die

It turns out that CNN had run a two minute segment profiling Yipit. By Sunday, they had aired the segment four times and we easily had our best ever two-day stretch across all key metrics including user sign-ups.
Did we get it because we...

Hibernate is a suite of tools providing relational persistence for Java and .Net, with origins dating back to 2001. You can check out the Hibernate code in their organization.
Commenter supreme JLM noted in a comment on Monday that he was once ripped off of a $2mm payday by a person he worked for. He took the hit, went away for a month, came back and started working for himself. Its an inspiring story from an inspiring guy. And by the way, the person who screwed JLM out of his money went broke. That story reminded me that there are takers and makers in this world....
