John Glenn Enters the Friendship 7 Capsule, 1962
NASA joined Flickr Commons today, releasing 180 historic photos in three incredible sets; Building NASA, Launch/Takeoff and NASA Center Namesakes. The photos span the US space agency’s 50+ year history. You’ll not only get to see the key figureheads behind NASA, you’ll also see some of the most iconic spacecrafts take flight. Each...

I am posting this as a MBA Mondays post. But I did not learn this little lesson at business school. I learned it from a very experienced venture capitalist early in my post-MBA career.
I was working on a CEO search for one of our struggling portfolio comapnies. We had a bunch of them. I started in the venture capital business just as the PC hardware bubble of the early 80s was busting. Our...

Drop what you’re doing right now and check Arcade Fire’s insanely awesome new video experiment. If this doesn’t make you weep for your lost childhood, you were never a kid.
So cool!

Co nowego u Banksy’ego? Ten rok, jak do tej pory był dla niego pracowity :) Poniżej mały przegląd najnowszych prac artysty, który z pewnością zainteresuje miłośników jego twórczości:

Photography purists might see many HDR images as gaudy & cartoonish but I really dig the way they bring out a new experience of the subject. The hyper-realism of some HDR compositions seems to almost virtualize the world blurring the lines even further between real & synthetic. It’s this same boundary dissolution that I enjoy in immersive games like the Grand Theft Auto series where...

This is a note to self. Remember to define all states for an object before you start referencing it.
If not, you will get an error like this: “You have a nil object when you didn’t expect it! The error occurred while evaluating nil.entering”

Because I enjoy this thread so much, I want to play. Zabka is an easy one (maybe the easiest) but he warrants inclusion.

And holy hell, Die Hard had both of them! Exponentially, that’s like 188 times the asshole quotient.

Google just announced a new feature: Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail.
Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates.
Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name. If...
Dan Benjamin, mastermind behind the fantastic interview show called The Pipeline, was so kind to ask me to be on his show. You can listen to our conversation on his site, here’s the direct link to the MP3, or if you prefer, in iTunes.
Dan, thank you so much for having me!
(Dan Benjamin was impressively persistent in trying to get me on his show. For some unknown reason, the concept of...

Last week’s MBA Mondays post about Bookings, Revenues, and Collections generated a number of comments and questions about sales commission plans. So I decided to ask my friend and AVC community member Jim Keenan to write a guest post on the topic. Jim’s blog, A Sales Guy, is a great read for those who want to get into the mind of a sales leader. So with that intro, here are...

A huge challenge for user-generated websites is overcoming the chicken-and-egg problem: attracting users and contributors when you are starting with zero content. One way to approach this challenge is to use what Geoffrey Moore calls the bowling pin strategy: find a niche where the chicken-and-egg problem is more easily overcome and then find ways to hop from that niche to other niches and...

Six months after leaving our jobs to start Yipit, Jim and I realized we had made a mistake: we shouldn’t have picked each other as co-founders.
The Steves: Jobs and Wozniak
Jim and I trusted each other and we were working really well together; but, it became painfully clear that we needed a technical co-founder. We had made the critical mistake of starting a company with someone who didn’t...

Tuesday resolution
Here are four resolutions for the rest of the year:
At the office: Work for clients.
At home: Relax, cook, work on personal projects, read & chill the fuck out.
Gym: Go at least three times a week.
Tennis: Play at least once a week.
I need to get organized and do this, for a less stressful year.
Then he gave me some advice about teaching that’s stuck with me for more than three decades: “Just pretend you’re teaching you. How would you do that? What would you want to know? What did you dislike when you were taught? What stories would you tell to make it understandable? What would keep you interested and engaged?”
